Director of Sales and Promotion

The Long Island Philharmonic, Long Island’s the leading professional orchestra and largest performing arts organization, seeks a full-time self-motivated, qualified executive to manage sales and promotional activities.  

Reporting to the General Manager, responsibilities include:

  • Developing, implementing and maintaining sales-related programs such as group ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, Playbill and Gala Journal advertising,
  • Reporting progress and results periodically to General Manager,
  • Coordinating sales programs with board member companies and other constituencies,
  • Planning and managing special events and receptions for customer/client events,
  • Attending concerts as needed related to customer/clients.
  • Communicating with staff as related to sales programs.

 

Candidates should have three years prior experience in sales or fundraising experience. Ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and writing skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Interest and education in classical and/or contemporary music is a big plus. We seek candidates who look forward to the challenges and rewards of working in the arts with a small office staff.

Salary plus bonus commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical insurance and paid vacation.

INTERNS

The Marketing & Public Relations Intern duties will include: assistance with single ticket and subscription campaigns; press release editing; maintaining relations with the media; creating unique media promotions; researching media sponsorship opportunities; maintaining the press clippings archive; updating the press and patron list database; S/he will also assist with other

marketing-related duties that will help promote Long Island Philharmonic’s concerts, education activities and special events. Summer interns will attend LIP’s outdoor summer concerts,

Completion of at least one year of college, computer proficiency (Excel, Word, internet searching, some graphic design experience helpful). Candidates must have an interest in the performing arts and marketing. Although all applicants will be considered if they meet the above requirements, those students pursuing a degree in music/performing arts management, marketing, communications or public relations are preferred. This position is an unpaid internship. Student may be able to arrange receipt of college credit. Students should make arrangements to receive college credit.

The Education and Community Engagement Intern will work for the Education and Community Engagement Department of the Long Island Philharmonic, recognized as one    of the Island’s leading orchestral education programs. Internship to begin immediately. One or two semester internship, depending on interest, experience and internship requirements, Depending on semester, the Education Intern's projects will include: researching youth programming and study materials; management of school and press contact databases; assistance in the management of marketing materials to promote Music LIvz, the Art In Education and Community programs to local schools, universities and community groups; attendance at in-school programs and Long Island Phiharmonic concerts with the Director of Education and Community Engagement to assist with education activities; creating a survey method to determine the effectiveness of LIP education programs.  Summer interns will accompany the Education Staff at the LIP outdoor summer concerts,

Completion of at least sophomore year of college, a minimum GPA of 3.0, computer proficiency (Excel, Word, knowledge of the internet, some graphic design experience helpful). Candidates must have an interest in the performing arts and music education. Although all applicants will be considered if they meet the above requirements, those students pursuing a degree in music/performing arts management, music education, public relations or education are preferred. This position is an unpaid internship.
