“Because I went to the Youth Concert, I learned that many composers and a lot of music come from Long Island.”

2008-2009 Youth Concerts |

|
Inspire and enthrall your students with the LI Philharmonic's annual educational concerts for grades 1-8, a musical tour around our great state. Maestro Wiley and the Orchestra perform works by New York composers Louis Armstrong, Aaron Copland, Morton Gould, Billy Joel and others, as well as composers with ties to New York including Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Rachmaninoff and Sousa. These concerts are an exciting and creative way to introduce students to a live symphony orchestra.
Youth Concert Curriculum Materials
Participating teachers receive integrated preparatory materials, approximately 5-6 weeks before the performance. Included are lessons for pre and post-concert study, a CD of the concert music, worksheets and a concert program.

| Over 7,000 school children from across Long Island attended the 2007-08 Youth Concerts at Tilles Center, Riverhead High School and Ward Melville High School. The Orchestra performed Scheherazade, March of the Toreadors from Carmen, Armed Forces Salute, selections from Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, Also sprach Zarathustra (a tribute to our astronauts which included our own UFO!) and other works.
