Hempstead Union Free School District kicks off Performance Partners Residency

The Long Island Philharmonic and Hempstead Union Free School District kicked off its Performance Partners Residency with a coaching by Philharmonic musicians on Monday, January 11, 2010.  The Performance Partners program, jointly administered by Nassau BOCES and the Long Island Philharmonic, includes music chosen jointly by district music teachers and Philharmonic Music Director David Stewart Wiley.  Students participate in ten hours of intense coaching and personal interaction with professional musicians from the Long Island Philharmonic.  They practice in sectional rehearsals, a conductor’s rehearsal and a dress rehearsal. The students performing in the residency will showcase their music in a public side-by-side concert on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 7pm at Hempstead High School.  The public is invited free of charge.

Performance Partners is designed to help students develop a lifelong interest in music and open their minds to the opportunities available to them. Students gain advanced ensemble skills such as listening across the orchestra and learning to work better as a musical team.  They also have the opportunity to increase their technical skills in a creative and dynamic atmosphere, gain in-depth knowledge of symphonic music and to be challenged at their highest artistic level.
